Review of book Bears Go Tin Mining

Exciting and Beautiful !Book rating: 5

PETER MASSCHARIS This is the third book in the "Bears of Porthors" series by Dale Reardon.

For those of you who are not familiar with the "Bears of Porthors": Porthors is an imaginery village on the coast of Cornwall where teddy bears and humans live peacefully together. The tales in these books are suited for all ages: ideal for reading to toddlers and the fonts are large enough for young children to read themselves. But even I (whose ship of youth has sailed a long time ago) love reading these books.

In this adventure the Bears read about the price of tin and go mining for tin in the old mineshaft on the Cornish coast. They are hoping to become "million bears".

After having thoroughly enjoyed the previous two books in the series, this adventure is the most exciting up to date. Dale manages to tell a very entertaining story that will certainly appeal to the young and the old. Not wanting to give away too much of the story itself, I can tell you that the bears find something much more precious than tin!
The Bears really come to life and after having read the three books in the series sofar, they really start to grow on you with their specific characters and "bearsonality" traits. And if that is not enough, you also learn a bit about the Cornish customs and history (does anybody know what "Oggys" or "Knockers" are?).

The photographs that were used to illustrate this story and digitally turned into line drawings are nothing short of magnificent. I have seen many of the original photographs that Dale Reardon has taken to create the illustrations and they are magnificent. The Cornish coastline is once more the beautiful landscape in which the story unfolds, but the illustrations of the bears in the tin mine shaft are an exquisite piece of work.
Not to mention my favourite one: Morwenna at Tony's ice cream shop. Magnificent.

I am very happy that the "Bears of Porthors" series is still continuing and that Dale is working hard on his next book. I can't wait. by PETER MASSCHARIS

Re: Book
Hi Dale,
Yes I read the story (twice :-) and I loved it.
The story is simple yet exciting and very well suited for children (and for grown ups who like teddy bears).
You know I had my doubts about the line drawings, but they did work out very well (my favourites are the ones in Edwin's house).
So I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait for "Day Trip from Porthorse" !
Please tell Alfie, Edwin, Edgar & Master Jeremy that they are real stars.
Hugs,
Peter & the bears, Belgium
